HISTORY
West Coast Swing: Is a slot dance in 6-count and 8-count patterns. The woman travels forward and back along a straight line on the floor, with the man moving off of and onto her line. The style is very casual and improvisational among advanced dances with "syncopations" i.e. rhythm variations, footwork variations, body waves, etc. West Coast Swing is great for a crowded dance floor. This dance can be done to a wide variety of tempos and styles of music.
Hustle: Is a swing dance and also referred to as Disco. The dance evolved greatly over the years and went through 6 major changes. The earliest version in 1975 was called New York Hustle. Originally it was a 6-count dance. "The Hustle" by Van McCoy in 1976 followed by the movie "Saturday Night Fever" starring John Travolta in 1977. In 1980 it changed to a 3-count with a rock step. In 1982 it changed to a together forward step. By 1983 the other version faded away. Now the 3-count Hustle, which has a basic rhythm of 4 steps, is counted: and 1 2 3. All leads start on the and step.
